INDIA SALUTES ST. ALPHONSA
In the recent days St. Alphonsa Shrine Church is seriously involved in a number of celebrations, having their climax in the forthcoming and eagerly awaited visit of the President of India. As were in the past, the days from 19th – 28th July, 2010 witnessed the festal celebrations of St. Alphonsa. This year festal celebrations were notable for two special reasons. The feast was celebrated in the birth centenary year of the saint. The exceptionally spiritual nature of the celebrations was another notable element. All sorts of external solemnity including fire- work, band display, chenda and other noisy items were avoided. Instead, holy masses, homilies, litanies, Novenas, rosary processions , confession, adima ( samarpanam )etc. were given priority . This new trend of celebrations was highly appreciated by the faithful as congenial to prayer life.
On 4th August The Shine Church hosts the Palai diocesan level celebration of St. Alphonsa Birth Centenary and the conclusions of the priestly year. All the priests of the diocese , Franciscan Clarist Sisters of Bharananganam and Palai Provinces, general and provincial council members of congregations having generalities and provincial houses within the diocese, diocesan pastoral council members, seminarians of the diocese, etc are participants.
